Last time I was at the beach I collected a bunch of driftwood. I was thinking about framing a mirror with layered pieces of driftwood. I didn’t have enough to do this though. Maybe I’ll make one in the future. Anyway, I like simple so I came up with driftwood crosses decorated with sea shells. These are very simple to make. I feel like I say that with almost every project I post on here. It’s true most of my projects are simple and these crosses definitely fall into that category.
What You Will NeedDriftwood, Seashells, Rope or Twine, Glue Gun
There isn’t much to this. Just cross two pieces of driftwood and tie the rope around the middle to hold the 2 pieces of driftwood together. Tie a knot in the back or create a loop for hanging purposes.
Use a glue gun to attach shells to the center.
You can use store bought shells and coral as seen in this one above.
You can use a bunch of shells and layer them or just lay a few shells across the front.
I think they came out pretty and would make a nice gift. What do you think?
Hi there,
I think they are absolutely wonderful. Well done.
Thank you! They were so simple to make. I appreciate you stopping by. 🙂
These are beautiful, what a clever and creative idea. Thanks for linking to Inspire Me. Hugs, Marty
Thank you for all your compliments and I appreciate you hosting the party! 🙂
Those look great. I think I’ll wander down to the beach to find the supplies. They would be a great “bow” on a wedding gift (especially in the island community that I live)….
That would be really cute, great idea! Thanks for visiting! 🙂
The simplicity and natural rusticity makes them more effective and desirable. Great project and yes they would be a very nice gift. People might even want to buy them, put a couple in your etsy store to see if you get any response on them. Happy days
You think? Maybe I should give it a shot! Thank you for your compliments and suggestion. 🙂
I just love these very charming crosses! A project that says so much in its simplicity! As we visit Charleston a lot and walk the beaches there, I now know how to put those shells to good use! I know my son and his fiancee would love to receive one. Thanks so much for sharing!!
Thank you for your compliment. They do say so much in their simplicity. So glad you’re going to put your shells to good use. Thank you for visiting. 🙂
This is a wonderful and simple craft project Kelly. I have a family trip to the ocean coming up soon. We will collect lots of driftwood for this fun project.
Thank you Kay. It is very simple. Enjoy your family trip to the beach and thank you so much for visiting. 🙂
